Ordinary Seaman Thomas Henderson

Ordinary Seaman Thomas Henderson, Royal Naval Patrol Service. He was lost at sea aboard H.M. Trawler “Strathborve” on 6th September 1941, aged 19. He was the son of Robert and Elizabeth Henderson of Tweedmouth and is commemorated on the Lowestoft Naval Memorial. The ship ( also for some reason known as the ” Strathborne ” ) with its crew of 15 struck a mine South East of Spurn Head and sank with 5 crew killed outright and 10 missing. The Aberdeen steam fishing Trawler built in 1930 of 216 tons was taken up for Admiralty service in August 1940 and converted to a Minesweeper based with the 152 Mine Sweeping group at Grimsby.
