Corporal Ralph Hall, 12th/13th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers. He was killed in France by shellfire on 4th January 1918, aged 37 and is buried in Heudicourt Communal Cemetery Extension, nr., Peronne, Somme, France. He was the son of Matthew and Phylis Hall of Tweedmouth and the husband of Jane Hall of 12 Dock Road, Tweedmouth. On that date the Battalion was in Brigade reserve and suffered two Other Ranks killed and two Other Ranks wounded by shellfire. The Battalion War Diary does not name the men but it would seem one was Corporal Hall. Before enlisting in 1914 he had been employed as a sawyer with Messrs Allan Bros. at Tweed Sawmills. He was their eighth employee to fall in the War and his Headstone is inscribed ” Rest In Peace”.
