Corporal John Craig

Corporal John Johnstone Craig, 1st/4th ( Border ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action in France, aged 36, on the 20th September 1918 during the ” Advance to Victory”. He was the only son of William and Catherine Craig of West End, Swinton and is commemorated on the Vis-en-Artois Memorial, Pas de Calais, France. He was a tailor to trade. He fell in the fierce fighting around the village of Moeuvres which was defended desperately by the Germans and cost the Battalion 25 killed and many wounded. The photos show Allied troops advancing after the retreating German Army during the final 100 days of the War.
