Second Lieutenant Walter Barrie, 3rd Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers att. 6th Battalion, Border Regiment. He was killed in action in Belgium on 7th June 1917, aged 37. He had been born at Hartsgarth, Newcastleton and was the son of the late Mr and Mrs Barrie of Berryfell, Hawick. He is buried in Irish House Cemetery, near Ypres, Flanders, Belgium. He had been in farming before enlisting in the Lothian and Border Horse and going to France in September 1915. Here he was selected for Officer Training and commissioned into the Kings Own Scottish Borderers where in November 1916 he was attached to the Border Regiment.
