Private William Pringle

Private William Pringle, 3rd/4th Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died at Hawick Sanatorium from tuberculosis on 2nd June 1918, aged 21, having been discharged from the Army in January 1918. He had been born in Lesmahagow and was the son of James and Agnes Pringle, of Blackwood, Lesmahagow and is buried in Stichill Kirkyard. He was the nephew and adopted son of Andrew and Sarah Pringle of The Schoolhouse, Stichill. Before enlisting he had been an apprentice ironmonger in Jedburgh. He had originally enlisted in the 3rd/4th K.O.S.B. before being posted to the 1st K.O.S.B. in France in March 1917. He was then transferred to the 7th/8th K.O.S.B.  ( The 3rd/4th K.O.S.S. was designated a Special Reserve which trained up young soldiers who were later transferred to other Battalions of the Regiment.
