Private William Black, 1st/5th ( Territorial ) Battalion, Highland Light Infantry. He was killed in action in France during the “Advance to Victory” on 24th August 1918, aged 20. He had been born in Stichill and was the son of Mary and the late William Black of Stichill, and is commemorated on the Vis-En-Artois Memorial Pas de Calais, France. The photographs show Allied troops during the advance against the retreating German army during the final 100 days of the War.
