Private William Gow, 12th ( Service ) Battalion, Highland Light Infantry. He was killed in Belgium on 23rd July 1917, aged 23 and is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Flanders, Belgium. He had been born in Melrose and was the son of Thomas and Agnes Gow of Weirgate Cottage, St Boswells. He had been a painter in St. Boswells before enlisting in the Royal Scots Fusiliers in 1914. Later he had been transferred to the H.L.I.
