Private George Swinton

Private George L. Swinton, 7th/8th Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died in France, aged 28, on 26th June 1918 of wounds received in action. He had been born in Edgerston to James and Margaret Swinton of Hiltownshill, St Boswells and Thornilee, Clovenfords. He was the husband of Mary Swinton of Carilaw, St Boswells and is buried in Duisans British Cemetery, Etrun, France. He was a Battalion piper and as such wore the Buccleuch tartan, see photograph.
