Private Robert Hills

Private Robert Fish Hills, 15th Battalion ( 2nd City of Birmingham ), Royal Warwickshire Regiment. He was killed by the bursting of a rifle grenade in France on 9th March 1916, aged 30. He was the son of John and Sarah How Hills of Lindisfarne, Spittal and is buried in Cabaret Rouge British Cemetery Souchez, France. The Battalion was what was known as a “Pals” Battalion. He had been educated at Berwick Grammar school and before enlisting he had worked in Birmingham as a cashier with Messrs. A.& F. Parkes. He had ben a keen cricketer and football player. His Headstone is inscribed ” White As Snow”.
