Deck Hand Henry Morton

Deck Hand Henry Morton, Royal Naval Reserve. He was lost at sea on 18th January 1918 aboard H.M.Trawler ” Gambri “, aged 23. He was the son of Henry and Margaret Morton and the husband of Margaret Morton of 71 Low Greens, Berwick-upon-Tweed and is commemorated on the Chatham Naval Memorial, Chatham, Kent. The ” Gambri ” was a former Grimsby trawler of 274 tons employed by the Admiralty as a Minesweeper. She struck a mine at 10.15 a.m. and sank off the Royal Soverign light ship, Sussex with 21 men lost. The skipper was George Bee, R.N.R.
