Rifleman George Elliott

Rifleman George Elliott, 1st/7th ( Territorial ) Battalion, ( Leeds Rifles ), West Yorkshire Regiment ( Prince of Wales’s Own ). He was killed in action in Belgium on 28th July 1917, aged 23 and is commemorated on the Nieuport Memorial, Nieuport, Belgium. He was the brother of Mrs M. A. E. Richardson of 4 Parliament Close, West End, Tweedmouth. At this time there were strong German attacks along the Belgium coast and the Artillery and Gas bombardments caused many casualties amongst the defending troops.
