Sergeant Robert McCudden

Sergeant Robert McCudden, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He was killed in a flying accident in Leicestershire, aged 19, on the 13th August 1944. He had been born in Selkirk in 1924 and was the son of Alexander and Christina McCudden of Kilncroft, Selkirk. He had been employed at the Ettrick Mill, Selkirk and was a member of the local Air Training Corps before enlisting in the R.A.F in May 1943. He was a board a Vickers Wellington bomber of 14th Operational Training Unit It had just taken off from R.A.F. Market Harborough when an engine failure caused it to crash with only 1 survivor. He is buried in Selkirk Cemetery.
