Private Robert Scott

Private Robert Scott, 7th ( Service ) Battalion, Cameron Highlanders. He was killed in action in France, aged 26, on the 17th August 1916 during the Battle of the Somme. He had been born in Selkirk in 1890 and was the son of the late Agnes Scott of Forest Road, Selkirk and the brother of Euphemia Scott of Forest Road, Selkirk. He had joined his Battalion in France in October 1915 and he is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Thiepval, Somme, France. He fell in the attack by the 15th ( Scottish ) Division, of which the Battalion was part, on the German positions in the village of Contalmaison which was stormed and captured with casualties of 5 Officers and 60 Other Ranks killed and 9 Officers and 167 Other Ranks wounded.
