Private John Scott

Private John Scott, 1st/4th ( Border ) Battalion, Kings own Scottish Borderers. He was posted missing in Palestine, aged 32, on the 26th February 1918. He had been born in Selkirk in 1885 and was the son of the late William Scott and Marion Scott of 103 Forest Roads, Selkirk. He had joined the Battalion in Egypt in 1916 and is commemorated on the Jerusalem Memorial. ( His brother George also fell – see above ). The first three months of 1918 saw the Battalion in and out of the front line near Jaffa and suffered the occasional casualty from Turkish artillery. ( On the 26th February on a patrol 2 men were captured and 2 wounded but there was no mention of a fatality or of a missing soldier ). The photos show Borderers in Palestine.
