Private John Lauder

Private John Lauder, 8th ( 90th Winnipeg Rifles ) Battalion, Canadian Infantry. He was killed in action in France, aged 20, on the 28th April 1917 during the Battle of Arras. He was born in Selkirk in 1896 and was the son of William and Marie Lauder of Sidney, Manitoba and Cypress River, Manitoba. He had sailed for Canada with his mother and two brothers to join his father who had emigrated earlier. He had been employed in farming when he enlisted in February 1916. He is commemorated on the Vimy Memorial, Vimy, France. The photos show troops during the Battle.
