Private John Irving

Private John Irving, 11th ( Service ) Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. He was killed in action in France , aged 30, on the 17th October 1917 and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, Arras, France. He was born in Selkirk in 1887 and was the son of the late Benjamin and Jane Irving and the husband of Helen Irving of 9 Back Feus, Selkirk. He had been managing a grocery store in Bridge of Allan when he enlisted in November 1915. He was mobilised in April 1917 and joined his Battalion in France in June 1917.
