Private James Tyson

Private James Andrew Tyson, 11th ( Service ) Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. He was killed in action in France, aged 19, on the 23rd April during the Battle of Arras. He had been born in Selkirk in 1898 and was the son of Bertram and Joan Tyson of 26 Anderson Road and 16 South Port, Selkirk. He is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, Arras, France. He had been a gardener employed as a seedsman in Selkirk when he enlisted in May 1916. The photographs show troops during the Battle. ( His brothers Bertram and John also fell – see above ).
