Private James Cassie, Scots Guards. He died at Home on Service on the 25th January 1915 aged 24. He had been born in Ledgerwood, Berwickshire in 1890 and was the son of John and Mary Cassie of 72 Forest Road, Selkirk. Since 1911 he had been a police constable with the Roxburghshire Constabulary based in Jedburgh. In October 1914 he was granted permission to enlist and was in training with the Scots Guards at Caterham, Surrey when he fell ill and died. He is buried in Selkirk Cemetery.
