Private George Brown

Private George Hunter Brown, 13th Field Coy., Australian Engineers. He died from wounds in France on the 11th July 1918 aged 20. He had been born in Selkirk in 1898 and was the son of the late Daniel Brown formerly of the Philiphaugh Spinning Mill, Selkirk and Margaret Brown of 15 Boyle Street, Enfield, N.S.W. In 1910 with some family members he had emigrated to Australia and was employed as an apprentice cabinetmaker in Sydney, New South Wales before enlisting in June 1917.After training he was sent to France in April 1918 in the middle of the German Spring Offensives. He died in the 13th Australian Field Ambulance at Daours and is buried in Daours Communal Cemetery Extension, Somme, France.
