Private Archibald Tait

Private Archibald Tait, 7th/8th Battalion, Kings Own Scottish. He died in France, aged 23, on the 20th April 1917 from wounds suffered during the Battle of Arras. He had been born in Selkirk in 1893 and was the son of Jacob and Alice Tait of South Port, Selkirk. He is buried in Etaples Military Cemetery, France. He was a mill worker and had joined the Territorial 4th K.O.S.B. in 1910. By 1914 he was employed as a vanman with the Selkirk Co-op and was mobilised in August 1914. He went to Gallipoli with the Battalion in June 1915 and was in Egypt when his term of Service expired in April 1916. He then re-enlisted and joined the 7th/8th K.O.S.B. in France.
