Private Alexander Geddes

Private Alexander John Geddes, Royal Army Service Corps. He died at Home in hospital on Service on the 8th September 1945 aged 27. He was the son of James and Christina Dodds Geddes of 26 Ettrick Terrace, Selkirk and is buried in Selkirk Cemetery where his Headstone is inscribed ” They Shall Not Grow Old, As we That Are Left Grow Old”. He had served his apprenticeship as an ironmonger in Selkirk and was working in Glasgow before enlisting. He had been taken prisoner during the Italian Campaign and transferred to a camp in Germany. There he contracted tuberculosis and was repatriated eventually to Bangour War Hospital in West Lothian where he died.
