Lance Corporal Peter Turnbull

Lance Corporal Peter Turnbull, 1st/4th ( Border ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died from wounds, aged 34, in Egypt on the 9th July 1917. He had been born in Selkirk in 1883 and was the son of Richard and Sophie Turnbull of 4a Bleachfield Road, Selkirk. He had been employed as a blacksmith before joining the Battalion in Egypt in 1916. The Battalion then went to Palestine where he was wounded in June 1917. He was evacuated to the 31st General Hospital in Port Said, Egypt where he died and was buried in Port Said War Memorial Cemetery where his Headstone is inscribed ” Faithful Unto Death”.
