Driver William Todd

Driver William Houliston Todd, Royal Army Service Corps. He died in Germany on the 26th April 1944 aged 40. He was the son of Thomas and Jane Todd of Bridge Street, Selkirk and the husband of Margaret Todd. He is buried in the Berlin 1939-1945 War Cemetery where his Headstone is inscribed ” At the Going Down Of the Sun And In the Morning We Will Remember”. Before enlisting he had been employed as a coal lorry driver for the Selkirk Co-op and was also a driver with the Fire Brigade. He was a reservist and was mobilised in September 1939. He Served in France and was eventually posted to Crete where he was taken prisoner when the Island fell to the Germans in May 1941. He spent three years as a prisoner in Germany before falling ill and dying.
