Chief Radio Officer William Armstrong

Chief Radio Officer William Armstrong, Merchant Navy. He died on Active Service, aged 42, at sea aboard the S.S. “Delilian” on 22nd January 1944 and is buried in St John ( Fernhill), St Johns, Canada. He was the son of Robert and Barbara Armstrong and the husband of Georgina Armstrong of 36 Raeburn Place, Selkirk. The vessel was a general cargo ship of 6,423 tons completed in 1923 by D. & W. Henderson for Donaldson Bros Ltd. of Liverpool. The ship had been struck by a torpedo in May 1941 but had survived with no casualties.
