Lance Corporal Thomas Davidson

Lance Corporal Thomas Andrew Davidson, 1st/5th ( Territorial ) Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers. He fell in action in Belgium on 6th September 1917, aged 24 during the Third Battle of Ypres. He was the son of Andrew and Mary Ann Davidson of Derwentwater Cottage, Scremerston and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Tyne Cot, Zonnebeke, Flanders, Belgium. ( The C.W.G.C. site has his rank as Private ). The Battalion was a Territorial Force Unit with its H.Q. in Bury, Lancashire. Before the War he had been employed as a miner at Scremerston.  The photographs give some idea of the desolation of the Flanders battlefield where the incessant shelling had destroyed the drainage system
