Lance Corporal William Forest Mallen, 1st Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action in Normandy on 19th July 1944, aged 33. He was the son of James and Elizabeth Mallen and the husband of Margaret Mallen of Kelso and is buried in La Delivrande War Cemetery, Douvres, Normandy, France. He fell in the fierce fighting in the Troarn sector which cost the Battalion 152 casualties including 12 Officers and this day was described as the worst day in the whole campaign.
