Private Robert Dickson, 2nd Battalion, South Lancashire Regiment. He was killed in action in Belgium aged 37, near the notorious “Hill 60” on the 9th May 1915 during the Second Battle of Ypres. He was the son of John and Margaret Dickson of Roberton and is buried in Larch Wood ( Railway Cutting ) Cemetery, Flanders, Belgium. ( His brothers Frank and William also fell during the War – see below ). He had been a Regular Soldier and had served many years before being discharged. He had re-joined on the outbreak of the War.
