Private John Rodgerson

Private John Rodgerson, 1st/4th ( Border ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action in France, aged 25, on the 18th September 1918 during the ” Advance to Victory”. He had been born at Clarilaw, Jedburgh and was the eldest son of David and Elizabeth Rodgerson of Martishouse, Hawick. Before enlisting he had been employed as a ploughman on Lord Polwarth’s Estate at Harden. He is commemorated on the Vis-en-Artois Memorial, France. He fell in the fighting near the village of Moeuvres where an attack by the Prussian Guards was repulsed. The photos show the Allies advancing after the retreating German Army in the final 100 days of the War.
