Lance Corporal Thomas Bell

Lance Corporal Thomas Waddell Bell, 49th (Edmonton) Battalion, Canadian Infantry. He was killed in action on 23rd September 1916 during the Battle of the Somme and is buried in Serre Road, No. 2 Cemetery, Somme, France. He had been born in Oxton in 1889 and was the son of Marion and the late William Bell of Red Deer, Alberta. The family had emigrated to Canada before the War and when he enlisted in Calgary in September 1915 he had been employed as a fireman. The photographs show troops on the Somme and the colour image is of a peaceful Somme landscape today.
