Private Robert Brown, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died at Home from tuberculosis, aged 21, on the 1st February 1917. He had been born in Stow in 1895 and was the son of William and the late Janet of Overhowden, Channelkirk, Oxton. He had been employed as a ploughman when he enlisted in May 1916 but became ill whilst in training at Duddingston Camp, Edinburgh. He was discharged from the Army and died at the family home in Channelkirk. He is buried in Channelkirk Parish Churchyard, Oxton.
