Private Robert Young

Private Robert James Young, “B” Coy.,2nd Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died on Active Service in the 56th  Casualty Clearing Station in France on 21st October 1918, aged 20, of wounds suffered in action during the ” Advance to Victory ” He had been born in Gullane, East Lothian and was the fifth son of Thomas and Janet Young of Lower Chatto, Oxnam and Nether Tofts, Hawick. He is buried in Grevillers British Cemetery, nr. Bapaume, Pas de Calais, France where his Headstone is inscribed ” Come Unto Me And Rest “. The Battalion had been in action for the last time in the War near Selle on the 20th where the German positions had been captured with 6 Killed and 49 wounded. The photographs show Allied troops advancing after the retreating Germans during the last weeks of the War. ( His brother Thomas also fell – see below ).
