Private Adam Glendinning

Private Adam Glendinning, 1st/4th ( Border ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action in Palestine on 22nd December 1917, aged 30 and is commemorated on the Jerusalem Memorial, Israel. He was the son of Walter and the late Margaret Glendinning of Hobkirk Manse, Hawick and the husband of Jane Elliot Scott Glendinning of Temple Hall, Bonchester Bridge, Hawick. He was the only fatal casualty in the very successful crossing of the River Auja when the Turks were taken by surprise and yielded over 300 prisoners. The photographs show the Borderers in Palestine in late 1917.
