Lance Corporal Frank Wood

Lance Corporal Frank Melrose Wood, 1st/4th ( Border) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died on Active Service on the Island of Lemnos, Greece  on 4th December 1915 from pneumonia aged 19. He was the son of William and Margaret Wood of Newton Don, Kelso and is buried in Portianos Military Cemetery, Lemnos, Greece where his Headstone is inscribed ” Till The Day Dawn”. He was a Battalion Piper. He had been born at Newton Don, Kelso, enlisted and lived in Kelso. He had been a Territorial with the Battalion and was mobilised in August 1914.
