Private William Affleck

Private William Redshaw Affleck, 6th ( Service ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers.  He died on 8th January 1917 in France of wounds, aged 39, whilst serving with the Lewis Gun Section. He was the son of Robert and Catherine Affleck of Gateshaw, Morebattle and is buried in Faubourg D’ Amiens Cemetery, Arras, France. He had been born in Morebattle and before enlisting in Kelso he had worked as a gamekeeper at Gateshaw, Morebattle. The photographs show Lewis gun section on the alert.
