Flight Sergeant Charles Humphrey

Flight Sergeant ( Pilot ) Charles Ivan Humphrey, Royal New Zealand Air Force. He was with 59 Operational Training Unit when he was killed in a flying accident on 14th July 1943 flying from Milfield Aerodrome, aged 21, and is buried in Kirknewton ( St. Gregory ) Churchyard, Wooler, Northumberland. He was flying a Hawker Hurricane Mk.1 when it crashed at Church Farm cottage near Belford. The cause of the crash was unknown but as the aircraft was probably a Battle of Britain veteran with wear and tear taking its toll.
