Private William Blackadder

Private William Blackadder, 26th Battalion, Australian Infantry. He was killed in action in France on 26th April 1917, aged 34 during the Battle of Arras and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, Somme, France. He was the son of John and Agnes Blackadder of ” Broomhill “, Mertoun. He had been working as a storeman in Cairns, Queensland when he enlisted in April 1916.  His brother also fell, see above. ( The Memorial is the Australian National Memorial dedicated to the missing of the Australian Forces who fell on the Western Front). The photos show Allied troops during the Battle.
