Second Lieutenant Thomas Hart, 63rd Battalion, Machine Gun Corps. He was killed in action in France on 5th April 1918, aged 22, during the German Spring Offensives. He was the son of Frederick and Janet Hart of Dingleton, Melrose and Craighouse Gardens, Edinburgh and is buried in Varennes Military Cemetery, Somme, France. He had originally enlisted in the K.O.S.B. before being transferred into the M.G.C. He was commissioned in November 1917. His Headstone is inscribed ” Left Behind We Wait In Trust” The M.G.C used the Vickers Mk1 water cooled gun in both defensive and defensive roles. The photograph shows troops in defensive positions.
