Private William Ramsay, 43rd Battalion, ( Cameron Highlanders of Canada), Canadian Infantry. He was killed by shellfire in Belgium on 27th April 1916, aged 32, and is buried in Railway Dugouts Burial Ground ( Transport Farm), Flanders, Belgium. He was the son of James and Georgina Ramsay of St Mary’s, Dingleton, Melrose and the Husband of Annie of 274 Stradbrooke Street, Winnipeg, Canada. He had emigrated to Canada in 1911 and left a widow and four children. The Battalion recruited and mobilised in Winnipeg and went to France in February 1916 where it fought as part of the 9th Infantry Brigade of the 3rd Canadian Division.
