Private Mark Turnbull, 2nd Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in France on 2nd March 1916 aged 32. He Had been born in Gattonside, Melrose to Elizabeth and the late Mark Turnbull of Gattonside and is buried in Ste. Catherine British Cemetery, Arras, France. Before enlisting in 1914 he had been employed as a tailor. On Active Service he had been evacuated suffering from frost bite, had returned to the Front where he had been wounded in July 1915.At that time the Battalion were in trenches near Arras in what was then a quiet sector. During the four month stay the Battalion had casualties of 2 Officers and 20 Other Ranks.
