Private James Fortune

Private James Hogg Fortune, 1st/4th ( Border) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died of Dysentery , aged 20, on 20th October 1915 in hospital in Malta. He had been evacuated in June From Gallipoli after falling ill. He was the son of William and Euphemia Fortune of Gattonside Mains, Melrose and is buried in Pieta Military Cemetery, Malta. He had been born in Ednam and before being mobilised in August 1914 he had been employed as a plumber in Melrose.
