Private Dan McDiarmid

Private Dan McDiarmid, 6th Battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers. He was killed in action in Normandy, France, aged 22, on the 29th June 1944 during the fighting in the Normandy campaign. He had been born in Selkirk to Hugh and Agnes McDiarmid of Abbotsmoss, Melrose and is buried in St Manvieu War Cemetery, Cheux, Calvados, Normandy, France. Before enlisting he had been employed as a gardener at Gattonside House, Gattonside, Melrose. His Headstone is inscribed ” To Memory Ever Dear Ever In Our Thoughts.
