Corporal Ivor Fernie

Corporal Ivor Fernie, “C” Coy., 1st/4th ( Border) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died of disease on 8th September 1917, aged 20, in the 24th Stationary Hospital, Kantara, Egypt. He had taken ill in Palestine and been evacuated to Egypt. He was the son of William Fernie of Abbotsford Road, Darnick, Melrose and is buried in Kantara War Memorial, Cemetery, Kantara, Egypt. Before being mobilised he had worked in the Town Clerk’s office in Melrose where he ad also been Secretary of the Melrose Cricket Club.
