Private John McDonald, 1st Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died of wounds in hospital in France on 17th February 1917, aged 24. He was the son of Hugh and Margaret McDonald of Rose Cottage, Achnacarry, Spean Bridge and is buried in St Marie Cemetery, Le Havre. He had enlisted in Yarrow, Selkirk. At this time the Battalion were in frontline trenches opposite Le Transloy on the Somme and suffered 50 casualties by shellfire.
