Guardsman Gilbert Moffat, 2nd Battalion, Scots Guards. He died at Muirdean, Makerstoun on 25th February 1919, aged 27. from wounds received during the War. He was the son of Gilbert and Euphemia Moffat of Makerstoun and is buried in Makerstoun Parish Churchyard, Makerstoun, Kelso. Before enlisting in February 1915 he had worked as a roadman. He was severely wounded during the Battle of the Somme in September 1916 and was discharged from the Army in April 1917 as unfit for further duty.
