Lance Corporal John Corcoran, 102nd Coy. Machine Gun Corps ( Infantry ). He was killed in action in France on 8th September 1917 during the Battle of Third Ypres and is buried in Jeancourt Communal Cemetery Extension, Aisne, France. The C.W.G.C. site gives his rank as Private. The M.G.C. used the Vickers Ml1 water cooled gun which could be used in both in both offensive and defensive roles and the first photograph shows machine gunners in position amidst the desolation of the Flanders battlefield where the incessant shelling had destroyed the Flanders drainage systems.
