Gunner William Dick

Gunner William Lees Dick, 5th Maritime Regiment, Royal Artillery. He was lost at sea, aged 23, on 30th October 1943 and is commemorated on the Chatham Naval Memorial. He was the son of Robert and Marion Dick and the husband of Janet Robertson Dick of Gordon. Many merchant ships had been equipped with guns for defensive purposes and Royal Artillery personnel were assigned to man these guns. (The ships were known as Defensively Equipped Merchant Ships or D.E.M.S.).
