Sergeant Walter Crone Nugent, Royal Air Force. He was lost on a night Air Operation to Essen with 57 Squadron R.A.F. on 5th June 1942, aged 25. He was the son of William and Jane Nugent of Newcastleton and is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial. At that time the Squadron was based at R.A.F. Feltwell and flew the Vickers Wellington medium bomber. His crew were Pilot, Sgt. William Barnes R.N.Z.A.F., Observer, Sgt. William Drummond, Wireless Operator/Air Gunner, Sgt. Arthur Knowles, Wireless Operator/ Air Gunner, Sgt. Andrew Fraser, Air Gunner, Sgt. Walter Nugent. The loss was claimed by Oblt. Heinrich Prinz zu Sayn-Wittgenstein of 9/Nachjagd 2.
