Private Walter Davidson

Private Walter Beattie Davidson, 6th Regiment South African Infantry. He was killed in action, aged 38, during the Battle at Salaita Hill on 12th February 1916 during the Campaign in East Africa and is buried in Taveta Military Cemetery, Kenya. He the son of Robert and Margaret Davidson of Roan Cottage, Newcastleton and had emigrated to South Africa in 1902 where he worked on the Railways. ( Before emigrating he had been a railway pointsman at Riccarton Junction, Newcastleton on the Waverley line ).
