Corporal Robert Wilson Hardie, 1st Battalion, Canadian Pioneers, Canadian Infantry. He was killed in action, aged 32, in Belgium on the 7th August 1916. He had been born in Castleton and was the son of the late William Hardie of Muirdyke Railway cottages, Castleton and Isabella Hardie of 12th Avenue, Calgary, Canada. He had emigrated to Canada in 1906 and was working as a teamster when he enlisted in Calgary, landing in France in March 1916. ( His mother had joined him in Canada in 1912). He is buried in Railway Dugouts ( Transport Farm ) Burial Ground, Flanders, Belgium.
