Private Robert Harrow Elder, 4th ( Border ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action in Holland on 18th February 1945, aged 23. He was the son of James and Mina Elder of Newcastleton and is buried in Mook War Cemetery, Limburg, Netherlands. He fell in the fierce fighting in and around Broederbosch Wood where the Battalion suffered 40 casualties. His Headstone is inscribed ” Safe in the Arms of Jesus”.
